We’re happy to announce the release of v4.5 of openrouteservice, which exposes unique services for two of our core API’s, routing and isochrones. Now you can restrict routes to avoid crossing borders and get instant population counts on isochrones.
On 24th of February, the QGIS developers have officially released QGIS 3 (codename “Girona”). It is the third major version of the free and open source cross-platform GIS software. In this post, I want to tease you with the most important infos and installation instructions.
QGIS 3.0 is the next big release in terms of features and tools. As it is stated in this e-mail chain we could expect this new major release in late 2017 and time is passing fast: retire 2.14 in June 2017 2.18 becomes LTR from June 2017 to 2018 3.0 feature freeze in July 2017 release 3.0 in Sept 2017 release 3.2 as next LTR in release 3.0 + 4 Months (eta June 2018) Yet this timeline is not strict and [was?] under discussion. We might expect a new candidate loaded with some cool and uncool features.
Four months ago QGIS 2.8 was released. The Long Term Release will be suppported for the next 2 years. Besides this LTR version QGIS is updated in a four month cycle. So let’s say hello to QGIS 2.10.

But as Nathan Woodrow (@madmanwoo) answered on my Tweet: “@dig_geo_com @qgis @QGISInfo @qgiswatch /sigh the packages aren’t meant to be…
As I came across some posts from @qgiswatch I was very excited as it stated that there are some changes in the GIT of QGIS that looks just like minor changes but in fact we are near the point of an official QGIS 2.0 release. This was somehow confirmed by the comment of QGIS on their facebook page: “The code has been branched for 2.0. We are working on the final bits like change logs, website updates, and docs. A release will follow very soon. Keep an eye out here, twitter, and the mailing lists for the announcement.” (Link). Please…
The new google maps is now in sort of a Beta and availbale on invitation. Let me share some of the new features with you: As you can see, you will have much more space available to see pictures on the map. What I like most is the very reduced implementation of search results as they are shwon in the lower part of the map and you will not have thes ugly markers scattered all over the map anymore: But let’s go a little further and have a look on the routing engine: In the new google maps engine you…
